 Chapter 4 : Making of the Constitution (Part1)

Part 1: History

1)      1922 :-     

v  Demand of Purna Swarajya (Total Independence) was made for the first time.

v  Young India a weekly newspaper was published by Mahatma Gandhi in English.

v  The Constitution of India will be according to the need of Indians- was said by Mahatma Gandhi

2)      1924 :-

  •          A demand was made by Motilal Nehru to the British government that an assembly sholud be formed for the Making of Constitution.

3)   1934 :-

  •          Idea of the Constituent Assembly was first proposed by M N Roy 

4)   1935 :-

  •         The formation of Constituent Assembly became an official demand of Indian National Congress(I.N.C.).

5)   1940 :-

  •         August Offer by the British - Lord Linlithgrow
  •         It said - "Most of the members in the Constituent Assembly will be Indian" rather than "All the members in the Constituent Assembly will be Indian."
  •        Therefore , this offer was declined by the INC.

6)   1942 :- 

  •         Cripps Mission by - Sir Stafford Cripps
  •         It provided Dominion status to India
  •         The mission failed as none of its demand were accepted by the INC.
  •         The Constituent Assembly was not formed.

7)   1946 :- 

  •         Cabinet Mission by -  Sir Stafford Cripps, Pethick Lawrence [Chairman], A V Alexamder
  •          The Constituent Assembly was finally formed.
