- Total sessions = 11 and one Special session
- Biggest Session = 7th
- Smallest Session = 6th
- 1st Session :
- Took place from 9 December to 23 December 1946
- 9 December =
- Muslim League and the Institutional members were not present.
- Dr. Sachidanand Sinha headed the session as temporary Chairman till the afternoon. His name was suggested by J P Kriplani.
- Later afternoon session was headed by Frank Anthony.
- Dr. Sachidanand Sinha read the greetings by America, Japan, China, Australia.
- 10 December =
- Formation of Committee on Rule of Procedure
- It was chaired by Dr. Rajendra Prasad
- 11 December =
- Permanent Chairman of Constituent Assembly - Dr. Rajendra Prasad
- 13 December =
- Objective Resolution was presented by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru.
- Later it was passed on 22 Jan 1947.
- 11th Session :
- Took place on 14 Nov 1949 to 26 Nov 1949
- Constituent Assembly worked as legislature from 1947 to 26 Nov 1949 and also worked as a temporary parliament from 26 Nov 1949 to 1952 (when 1st Elections of independent India were held)
- Special Session :
- A special session of Constituent Assembly was held on 24 Jan 1950.
- 284 members signed on the Constitution.
- 1st member to sign = Pt Jawaharlal Nehru
- Last member to sign = Firoz Gandhi

- Chairman of Constituent Assembly for Legislature = G.V Mavalankar ----- later became the first LokSabha Speaker after independence
- Chairman of Constituent Assembly for Making of Constitution = Dr. Rajendra Prasad
